Itinerary highlights

This tour begins in Bilbao where we after a day of rest start the biking in Laredo and move on towards the west on the Way of St. James. We pass by highlights like Santander, Santillana & Comillas as well as smaller valleys in the mountains. We will learn and participate in local Cantabrian cooking with our guides, try beer & cheese, and visit Gaudís legacy in Cantabria. Biking on 21-24 gear confortable bicycles where you only have to carry the everyday necessities.

Day 1

Arrival, transfer to hotel, activities and dinner on your own.

Day 2

Pick up at hotel. Transfer to the starting point in Cantabria. Biking day following the Camino Norte coast line & picnic. Achovies visit and tasting. We pass by some of the most beautiful beaches of northern Spain and rest in a Spa hotel. Dinner close to the hotel.

Day 3

We follow the coast and a Vía Verde to the Pasiego valleys. Visits to local producers, guiding and explanation of the territory and lunch in a small village. Transfer to Santander with cooking session and dinner.

Day 4

We continue to explore Camino Norte in Cantabria following the coast. Picnic close to our hotel. Fish and seafood dinner on beautiful Arnía beach. Intertidal Safari guiding tour at night with a special guiding tour showing us the after-dark night of the sea life on the rocky shore.

Day 5

Short transfer to begin the biking on another “Via Verde” from Barros to Suances following the old industrial lane. Fish restaurant lunch. Afterwards we continue to Santillana del Mar – the most important tourist village of Cantabria and on the northern Pilgrimage – and an evening on your own.

Day 6

From Santillana we continue to beautiful Comillas , lunch on your own and a visit to The Gaudí Caprice – the most important legacy of the catalan world known artist. Check in at hotel and farwell dinner at traditional village restaurant.

Day 7

Check out. In the morning some free time in Santander and a market place visit. Afterwards 1,5h transfer to Bilbao. Afternoon and evening free.

Day 8

If you have time before leaving – see more of Bilbao. Transfer to airport.

Getting here & transfers

Bilbao is the best airport for regular incoming international flights. However, Ryanair operates to Santander airport from several European cities. From UK there are weekly ferries to Bilbao and Santander. Ask us for the best option!

All bus and minibus transfers in Spain included. Mostly short transfers 30min-1h.

In the countryside you will rest and enjoy small family owned hotels. In Santander & Bilbao we use bigger hotels well situated.

On this tour you will enjoy solid buffet breakfasts with bread, cereals, juice, coffe & tea, ham, eggs, cheese as well as local sweets to get ready for a day of walking. On the roads and always in hand-picked sceneries you will taste & enjoy local products on charming country picnic lunches, where we often buy fresh products on the visits we make. The dinners will be the delicious results of our cooking sessions, pinchos as well as a countryside restaurant visit!

As we have prepared written detailed itineraries and maps, you will be able to complete each route at your own pace. And if you still need an extra challenge we can provide you with some alternative extra kilometers to complete the physical activity of each day.

Our cooking sessions are meant to be learning and inspiring. We will visit small cheese-producers and wineries where we also will be able to taste their products. We will even be able to taste sweets and desserts at a Nun convent! Delicious and original picnics in hand-picked beautiful outdoor spots, wellness opportunities and just relaxing mindfulness in any of the family owned small country-side hotels where we will feel just like home, will make this week a 100% disconnecting experience.
