De Madrid al cielo – from Madrid to heaven is what the Madrileños say in a proud almost holy way. The blue sky, the fresh but sunny winters and early springtime can really make you understand the expression. Madrid is the proud capital of Spain and also one of Europe´s biggest cities. An urban melting pot of people, culture, artists and more…but also many faces of one Madrid. There are vast differences between barrios (different city districts) that gives you a feeling of many small regional cities put together to one. Madrid is trendy and has managed to come up with a gourmet and culture revolution the last years, and you will get to know a friendly but also trendy city. We follow the footprints of Almodóvar on a walking tour, we enjoy art & music, hook up for lunch at landmark fusion restaurant El Flaco with Andy Boman and much more. On this 5 nights/ 6 day tour we also explore the wine appellation D.O. Madrid, west of the city close to the Gredos mountains, with a walking tour in the beautiful and wild settings. Eco and close to nature winemaking with old Garnacha wines. Before going back to Madrid we also spend some well invested time in mid eve town of Ávila.
Day 1
(Dinner) Arrival and transfer to village of San Martin de Valdeiglesias area with check in at charming countryside hotel, excellent welcome dinner and wine pairing of the regions wines.
Day 2
(B,L,D) After breakfast we kick off with our walking tour of approximately 10km with no hard climbs (optional shorter route). Afterwards D.O. Madrid wine visit, tasting and lunch of one of the smaller wineries in the area and back to the hotel for some rest. In the evening we enjoy another wine tasting before dinner close to the hotel.
Day 3
(B,D) Check out after breakfast and short transfer to Ávila with a short guided tour and time on your own for strolling around, climbing the heritage city walls and lunch. Afterwards some siesta during the 1h transfer to Madrid. Once in Madrid a panoramic tour from the bus and afterwards check in at our hotel. Before dinner we offer an optional visit to impressionist Sorolla museum. Dinner at one of Madrid´s best restaurants – a surprisingly basic tavern but with gourmet home cooking.
Day 4
(B,L,D) We take a long city walk where we stop by some landmarks from Pedro Almodóvars movies and follow his footprints. Lunch at another favorite restaurant in the Chamberí district. Short siesta and off again for a different art museum visit at private Thyssen museum. Dinner close to the hotel with opera singing waiters…
Day 5
(B,L) Optional Rastro market visit in the morning and farwell lunch at Andy Bomans El Flaco in Prosperidad district – sublime fusion food! Free evening.
Day 6
(B) Transfer to airport on your own according to home flight.

Visits to 2 wineries with tastings. There will be opportunities to see how wine was made yesterday in comparison with modern techniques of authors or garage styled modern wines.
