Priorat is a rural area of Cataluña with a colorful wilderness & breathtaking sceneries from the Montsant mountains. A small & culturally unique region, with the Scala Dei monastery ruins, spiritually embracing every corner. A land of pioneers where tradition and modernity join forces in food & wine know-how. A unique short break with a handful of experiences in combination with Barcelona. (6 days/5 nights)

It´s amazing to discover so many great wines, such a great food & ancient culture in such a small area…Bonito Norte

Itinerary highlights
The first thing that hits you when you stop is the silence. Not far away from the loud Costa Dorada and Salou, it seems like you are really in the middle of nowhere. The views are stunning, the spring flowers in multicolored bloom and the sensation of being in a very special place is very present. Alvaro Palacios, one of the responsible of the rediscovery of this small (but huge) wine region often talks about the supremacy of wines from holy regions. So true. DOC Priorat is one of the smallest wine appelations in Spain. This catalan highly appreciated and somewhat hyped wine region is today producing the most expensive wines in Spain. Its landscape has been compared to a stormy sea with the small villages (that almost vanished before the wine business recovered) as small ships on top of the waves or down in the valleys. Its volcano licorella stony soil gives a true mineral touch to the wines and the expression of the old Garnacha and Cariñena vines give low yields with high concentrated fruit always on top of the oak. The result? The inky “vi negre” as it is called in Catalan.

Day 1

Arrival to outskirts of Barcelona where we meet up, have a glass of wine and get an informative presentation of the tour. 3 course dinner while we get to know the group.

Day 2

1,5 hour transfer to Priorat and its winding roads and spiritual mountain range Montsant protecting the wavy landscape. A first winery visit to a cooperative in D.O. Montsant, with a solid explanation of the land, the terruño and the grapes. After check in, traditional lunch with the state wines, chance for a short siesta and later on a floral walk for about 5km. Another winery visit before dinner at the hotel with an explanation of the raise of D.O.C. Priorat and a horizontal tasting.

Day 3

Morning 4km stroll down the mountains to a cultural monestary visit, we see the surroundings and enjoy an oil tasting and village lunch. In the afternoon we continue to one of the more famous villages of the appellation where we enjoy two  “to the roots” visits of wineries and with a winery led by two sisters, and another one with a  7th generation winemaker and farmer. Tastings and back to the hotel for dinner.

Day 4

A morning visit to historical and beautiful Siurana where we do a round 5km trail and afterwards we continue to a Michelin recommended lunch in the area. Transfer to Falset for check in and free afternoon and evening. Bon Appetit!

Day 5

Morning walk from Falset to Bellmunt 5km or longer optional walk to Gratallops 9km. Picnic lunch. Afternoon wine cooperative visit in Falset and farwell dinner at modern venue in Falset.

Day 6

Transfer to home flight or free days in Barcelona.
